Port Augusta is known as the crossroads of Australia - where roads from Adelaide, the Flinders Ranges, Alice Springs, Perth and Whyalla all intersect.
This friendly city sits at the head of Spencer Gulf and is an excellent holiday destination with a number of world class attractions, a wide range of water activities, a relaxing foreshore including playground and barbecue areas, and extensive shopping facilities.

Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is located 600 kilometres north of Adelaide and 130 kilometres east of Leigh Creek, in the rugged and spectacular northern Flinders Ranges. This 610 square kilometre multi award-winning Wilderness Sanctuary, operated by the Sprigg family, contains some of Australia's most spectacular mountain views and offers numerous Advanced Ecotourism accredited guided tours.

Alan Mclellan Lookout A stone cairn marks the spot where Captain Matthew Flinders stepped ashore on 10 March 1802. The cairn was built in 1967 and named after Alan McLellan, an early historian of Port Augusta. The lookout is situated in Whiting Parade at the end of Edinburgh Terrace, and provides a good view of the Spencer Gulf, the Northern and Thomas Playford Power Stations and the picturesque Flinders and Bluff Ranges.

Gladstone Square Gladstone Square is located in the Port Augusta City Centre, on the corner of Jervois Street and Marryatt Street.

Great Western Bridge Before the Great Western Bridge was built, ferry boats and barges were used to cross the Spencer Gulf. The only other way to get to the other side was by land, around the head of the Gulf, a distance of about 12 kilometres.

Heritage Walk A two hour Heritage Walk of Port Augusta and a Tourist Drive has been developed. Details of the walk and a map are included in the local Port Augusta Visitor Guide, available at information outlets. The Tourist Drive is also available as a separate publication.

Old Number Four Barge On the eastern side of the old bridge are the remains of the Number Four Barge. It was brought from Port Pirie in 1944 to support workmen who were strengthening the bridge for the erection of the Morgan to Whyalla pipeline.

Water Tower Lookout The Water Tower Lookout is surrounded by lovely gardens. This tower was built in 1882 to provide a pressure water supply for the residents of Port Augusta West. From the balcony at the top of this tower you can enjoy excellent views of the town, the Spencer Gulf, the Flinders Ranges and the outback.

Tastes Of The Outback Delight your senses with a smorgasbord of events and activities during Tastes of the Outback 2010. Each April, the Flinders Ranges and Outback provides the stunning backdrop for 10 days of festivities. Jazz, world music, opera and top country music acts are just some of the highlights. Growing in popularity every year, Tastes of the Outback showcases the best of the region – from Melrose in the south to Innamincka and Coober Pedy in the north.

Pichi Richi Railway Preservation Society Incorporated Pichi Richi Railway operates between Quorn and Port Augusta in South Australia's Flinders Ranges region. Trains operate from Quorn or Port Augusta using steam locomotives or historic diesels and genuine timber-body carriages up to 115 years old. A variety of hire options are also available for your special requirements.

Port Augusta Visitor Information Centre The National accredited Port Augusta Visitor Information Centre is a part of the Wadlata Outback Centre. The Outback Centre provides comprehensive tourist information about local and regional tours, attractions and accommodation and provides booking facilities for Port Augusta and the Flinders Ranges and Outback of South Australia.

- Australian Arid Lands Botanic Gardens: Occupying over 200 hectares with 12km of walk trails offering superb views of the Flinders Ranges and showcasing a range of arid zone flora in an amazing environment.
- Royal Flying Doctor Service Base: Tours of the new base at Port Augusta Airport . Open Monday - Friday 10:00 -15:00 .
- Matthew Flinders / Redcliff Lookout: Excellent views of the Flinders Ranges and the top of the Gulf.
- The Great Western Bridge: The old Great Western Bridge was built in 1927 and was replaced by the current bridge in 1972.
- Heritage Walk: Collect a guide map from the Wadlata Visitor centre and take a walking tour around historic buildings and sites in Port Augusta. Tour takes 2 hours to complete.
- Flinders Range Water Cruises: Take an amazing eco-cruise through Spencer's Gulf at the junction of the Flinders Ranges. Experience the playfulness of the resident bottlenose dolphins. During late August, sightings of humpback whales are not uncommon.
- Port Augusta Golf Course: Home of the Port Augusta Classic - held in the first week of August each year. Situated on Hamilton Road Port Augusta West and accessible from the Stuart & Eyre Highways.
- Pichi Richi Railway: Pichi Richi Railway is an operating museum. Departs from Port Augusta and Quorn. The railway is run and operated by a group of dedicated volunteers.
- Port Augusta Outdoor Adventure Centre: The Aquatic Centre welcomes you to learn the following - $20 per session - Monday - Windsurfing / Tuesday - Sailing / Wednesday - Kayaking / Thursday - Canoeing.
